Packed house floods Dunedin Local Final at Blur
|
DUNEDIN It was a packed house
as Talent Quest Florida returned
to Blur in Dunedin on Sunday,
May 23.
Singers packed almost every
category, but it was the pop
groups that saw the most
participants.
"This is the kind of turnout we
love to see," said Steve
Blanchard, contest co-owner and
emcee. "We get excited when the
crowd is this excited."
And there was plenty to be
excited about! According to head
judge and contest co-owner Phil
Garris, the talent level was exceptional.
"At first I don't think the contestants knew what to expect, but they all did a fantastic job and
we heard some incredible voices," he said. "We have a very strong pool of contestants
coming out of Dunedin and I think they have a great opportunity to wow us at the regional
contest in July."
In all, 18 people advanced to the TQFL 2010 regional finals, which are July 8-11 at the
DoubleTree Westshore Hotel in Tampa. Several scores were close and Garris encouraged
those who didn't qualify at Blur to try to do so at other nearby venues.
"The talent was good and it was a tight competition," he said. "But even some who didn't
make it have an excellent shot to do well at the regional if they just stick with it."
This marks the third year that Blur has been a local venue for this contest
