the 2012 season of Talent

"There seemed to be a little less enthusiasm than the night before at the Cape
Coral finals, but once we got rolling, it was evident there were a few contestants
in it to win it," said Phil Garris, head judge and contest co-owner.
This year, Talent Quest Florida has incorporated a new system when it comes to
inviting singers to participate in the regional finals. Rather than taking the first
three or so singers out of each category, owners have decided to invite all
singers who score at least 2/3 of the allotted points from the judging panel.
"This prevents some talented singers from getting bounced out of the contest
simply because they were edged out by a point or two," explained Steve
Blanchard, co-owner and emcee. "This system works much better and it takes
some of the pressure off of the performers, since they're competing against
themselves rather than their fellow local singers."
In all, 7 songs were selected to advance to the regional finals. This year, Talent
Quest Florida expects more than 400 singers at the regional final, held at the
Westshore Marriott in Tampa.
