masters singers based on our previous experience at R Beach," said Phil Garris, head judge and
contest co-owner. "It was great seeing familiar faces and some new ones. The talent was
strong."
R Beach was a venue for Talent Quest Sunshine State, Florida's sister competition earlier this
year.
"Everyone was dressed to the nines today and knew exactly what we were looking for," said
emcee and co-owner Steve Blanchard. "I made a joke on stage that everyone looked great and
they were either prepared for this contest or thought they were headed to a funeral. But the 10
points they earned for appearance were key because we had some really close scores."
In all, 20 people advanced to the Talent Quest Florida regional finals at the DoubleTree
Westshore Hotel in Tampa on July 9-11. This year the contest is expecting nearly 400 singers.
"This was our third local final and we have a lot more to go," said Garris. "But based on what
we've seen so far, this is going to be a phenomenal year again for Talent Quest Florida."
