Talent wows judges in Jupiter

JUPITER, Fla. It was an
admittedly small group at
Hokkaido Hibachi and Sushi
on Friday, June 11, but that
doesn't mean the talent was
miniature.
"This has been some of the
best voices we've heard so
far this year," head judge
and TQFL co-owner Phil
Garris told the contestants.
"We have some real power
in this room and if you guys
play your cards right, you
have excellent chances of
doing very well at Talent
Quest Florida and maybe even beyond."
Comparatively speaking, this batch of singers out of Jupiter is the largest from the region in
Talent Quest Florida history. Hokkaido is the third venue in as many years to host the local
contest.
"I think we're finally getting recognized here," said emcee and co-owner Steve Blanchard. "Some
of these contestants didn't know what they were getting into tonight, but afterward they all
seemed excited about competing in Tampa in July. I think they have the right mindset to be
successful in this competition."
The singers who advanced through the local finals on Friday will join an estimated 400 singers
from throughout the state at the DoubleTree Westshore Hotel in Tampa July 8-11. Hokkaido is
the fifth venue out of 17 that Talent Quest Florida officials will visit this season.
"We're in our groove now," Blanchard said. "We're moving through our venues, hearing some
familiar voices, hearing some new ones and growing the Talent Quest Florida family. This really
is shaping up to be another banner year for us."
