PORT CHARLOTTE--It's been nearly a decade since the original Talent Quest Florida regional finals
first appeared in the Port Charlotte area, and contest owners were thrilled to return to where it all
began. The local finals were held at Madison's on Saturday, April 6.
"It really feels like we've come full circle by coming back to Port Charlotte," said Phil Garris,
co-owner of the competition, head judge and former winner. "I won here back in 2001 so it was
really neat to bring this competition back to the people there."
And the people were definitely out supporting it. The Madison's final was one of the largest of the
year so far with jam packed pop, country and 50-plus categories.
"All of the categories were very strong," said Talent Quest Florida judge Jenny Jones. "The crowd
was fun and the contestants really researched the competition. They came dressed for their songs
and I could tell they had worked on their performances. It was great."
This was the first year for Madison's as part of the Talent Quest Florida family.
"I hope we come back here next year," Garris said. "This is an untapped area for us before this
year. So we'd really like to see it just keep growing from here."
The Talent Quest Florida 2009 Regional Finals are once again at The Ritz Ybor in Tampa July 10, 11,
and 12. Contestants advance to the regionals for free. Tickets to the finals are available on our
