SOUTH PASADENA--It was a beautiful Sunday when Ten Pins Lanes hosted the Talent Quest Florida
local finals on May 31--and it seemed every female contestant had the name "Marie" affiliated with
her.
"It was so funny, while we did the women's country category, we had like three or four contestants
with Marie as the second name," said Steve Blanchard, TQFL co-owner and emceed. "It was a really
fun competition and we really heard some good talent."
The very well-attended competition packed the bar of the bowling alley and brought out some
surprise talent, according to Talent Quest Florida head judge and co-owner Phil Garris.
"As I've said before, going into a new venue can always be tricky, but Debbie and the staff at Ten
Pins were great and they really had a strong competition," Garris said. "It's rare that you get a group
of singers together and not have anyone who just doesn't have the ability. Everyone at Ten Pins
could sing. I wish we could have taken them all onto the regionals. Hopefully they'll try to qualify at
one of the other venues nearby still running the local contest."
The Talent Quest Florida 2009 Regional Finals are once again at The Ritz Ybor in Tampa July 10, 11,
and 12. Contestants advance to the regionals for free. Tickets to the finals are available on our
Tickets Page.
