SPRING HILL--Talent Quest Florida started its northern trek on Friday, June 19, with a visit to the
Chesapeake Bay Crab House in Spring Hill--and the talent was out in full force.
"I think its safe to say that a few singers blew the judging panel away," said Phil Garris, head judge
and contest co-owner. "It was a diverse sound. We had oldies, contemporary and some great
country."
The venue, which is also a restaurant, was packed to the hilt with supporters during the finals.
Emcee and TQFL co-owner Steve Blanchard managed to meet several of the people supporting
contestants.
"What a great group," he said. "Everyone was very welcoming and seemed to really enjoy the show.
But really, how couldn't they? The singers were really talented."
The venue was one of the first of the year for judge Kris Doubles, who was first affiliated with
Talent Quest Florida when it began at his bar, Grand Central Station, in 2005.
"This competition has grown by leaps and bounds," he said. "It was really rewarding to see the
progress Talent Quest Florida has made and I'm honored for the chance to help it branch out into
new territory."
Qualified singers advanced to finals and will vie for a chance to win a trip to nationals in Laughlin,
Nevada, this September. Contestants at the Florida regional will also compete for karaoke
