Stuart singers bring crowd, talent
STUART It was singin' good in
the neighborhood at Applebee's
in Stuart on Monday, June 14.
The local finals were packed
with singers, supporters-and
talent.
"This is what a local final is
supposed to be," said Phil
Garris, contest co-owner and
head judge. "Watching these
singers got me excited for our
regional finals. It's going to be a
dog fight. These contestants
seemed excited about moving on
and we're excited for them."
In all, 18 people moved through
to regionals and the
largest category was women's pop, followed closely by men's pop.
"I honestly didn't know what to expect, which is pretty typical for a new venue," said Steve
Blanchard, TQFL co-owner and emcee. "But that's part of what I love about this job. You go into
the unknown and you are usually pleasantly surprised."
The Stuart Applebee's was the sixth venue in this Talent Quest Florida season. Nearly 100
people have qualified for the regional finals so far, which will be held at the DoubleTree
Westshore hotel in Tampa on July 8-11.
"This is the first time we'll have the entire competition under one roof," Blanchard said. "We've
had the competition in one theater before, but having the hotel incorporated into the
competition is going to make life much easier for everyone involved."
