TAMPA Talent Quest Florida
landed in familiar territory July
6 with a return trip to Club City
Side, which has played host to
the contest three times before.
And, as usual, the talent in the
bar did not disappoint.
"It's no secret it's been a
tough year for the contest
because of the economy," said
contest co-owner and emcee
Steve Blanchard. "But the City
Side contest has really lit a fire
under me again and renewed
my passion for this contest."
While there were a few familiar faces among the contestants, there was also a crop
of new singers too. Men dominated the night--especially in the pop category, which
was the night's biggest.
"The judges table was really impressed tonight," said Phil Garris, co-owner of the
contest and the head judge. "There were several times when a singer captivated us
from the beginning to the end. I hope they take the critiques to heart because this crop
of singers could do phenomenally well at regionals."
Qualified singers advance to the regionals at no charge since City Side covered their
entry fees. Tickets for friends and family are available through this Web site. In all,
approximately 300 singers are expected to participate in this year's regionals July
28-31 at the Double Tree Westshore Hotel in Tampa.
